Victor Orban had been a staunch ally of both President Donald Trump and the nation of Israel. But because of his party's stunning election defeat, he will be replaced by Peter Magyar, who has promised to act differently when it comes to the Jewish state.
For one thing, he pledged to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, reports Associated Press. Orban was in the process of withdrawing from the international body, but Hungary has rejoined since Magyar became leader.
Magyar announced his intentions on Monday at a conference hosted by the E.U. in Brussels. Over 60 nations met to discuss stability and peace with Palestinian representatives, and many E.U. countries express the want for an independent Palestinian state.
The E.U.’s anti-Israel stance comes from outrage toward Israel’s response to the Hamas attack in October 2023. Some nations, such as Hungary and Spain, are calling for action, but it won’t happen until 65% of the E.U. agrees.
Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, speaks on Hungary's change.
"We have a mayor in New York City who wants to do the same thing the minute Netanyahu lands in New York at some future date. It just intrigues me how the world, starting with the International Criminal Court, is caught up in such foolishness,” says Markell. “The Bible talks about an end time strong delusion, and I think that's a delusion that sort of sweeps the whole globe."
This is all clearly, she says, a sign of the end-times.
"If I didn't know this weren't the last days, I would be pretty concerned. But because I know it's the last days, I know everything is upside down and will continue to be. And my question I keep asking everybody is: what did you think the last days would look like?” asks Markell. “It's just as we're seeing them, totally skewed with totally foolish decisions, kicking out a wonderful leader, Viktor Orban, for another nut bird."
