Virginia judge says all of Tuesday's redistricting votes are unconstitutional

Virginia Democrats were still celebrating the results of Tuesday's redistricting referendum when a judge ruled all the votes, both for and against, were unconstitutional citing rules that imposecertain requirements that the referendum did not meet.

The Democrat authored referendum which voters passed by a narrow margin would seem to give the Democrats four more House seats.

On Wednesday, the state attorney general’s office said it would immediately appeal the judge's ruling which keeps the Tuesday vote from being certified.

Ultimately, the Virginia Supreme Court will decide whether Democratic lawmakers violated procedural rules when they referred a constitutional amendment to the ballot. If so, that could invalidate the map voters narrowly approved Tuesday.
