In his remarks, in a social media post on Tuesday, he suggested there were differences between Israel and the Trump administration over a recent deal announced to disarm the terrorist group.
The Board of Peace official overseeing Gaza’s postwar transition, Nikolay Mladenov, on Monday met with Netanyahu, in part to discuss the new disarmament deal the U.S.-created board has reached with Hamas.
Last week, President Donald Trump announced an agreement that calls for Israel to cease its military operations in Gaza and for Hamas and its allies there to halt all terrorist activity. After the text of the agreement was released, Israel said it had "serious security concerns."
The agreement called for Hamas to begin disarming and for Israel to halt its strikes and begin withdrawing from the roughly 60% of Gaza it currently controls.
Netanyahu reiterated his stance that disarmament should come first. He said Israeli forces would continue to “do whatever is necessary to protect themselves, our territory, and our citizens.”
The Trump administration “sent us a draft. We did not agree. It is not our draft. We sent our comments. … This is our position,” Netanyahu said in a video posted on social media.
The current conflict began in October of 2023 when Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and massacred more than 1200 Israeli men, women and children and also took more than 250 people hostage.
Officially, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been in place since last October.
However, Israel has been forced to take action against the Hamas terrorists still in Gaza who endanger its soldiers, took part in the Oct. 7 attack or carry out other violations.
