It’s nothing new for many politicians to flip-flop on issues to woo moderate voters, and Talarico so far has piled up numerous flip-flops in his bid to flip Texas blue.
Among them is backtracking on illegal immigration after advocating for an open U.S.-Mexico border. He previously described the U.S. border as a “welcome mat” for any illegal aliens, without a criminal record, who cross it.
Talarico has also become a fan of meat after bragging his 2022 state re-election campaign would be “vegan” to fight climate change.
He also wants Texas voters to believe he enjoys wearing cowboy hats and drives a gas-guzzling truck.
“His progressive language from 2020 is very different from what he’s saying now, as he runs statewide in Texas,” Andrew Kaczynski, a CNN editor, told the liberal cable outlet in a Sept. 2 segment.
Talarico's political pivoting comes after polls show he has a single-digit lead over Ken Paxton, his Republican opponent.
During a Sept. 9 Fox News interview, Talarico said he would “absolutely” support a national ban on the controversial body-altering trans surgeries on minors.
He also said he opposes transgender females — biological males — playing in female-only sports if it “risks safety or fairness.”
At a private fundraiser, hosted by homosexual activists, a transgender activist confronted Talarico about his “hurtful” comments on Fox News, and the Senate candidate apologized.
The activist, a black man who dresses as a woman, goes by the name Joelle Bayaa-Uzuri Espeut.
“He said these decisions should be left to local government, and local institutions, and that as far as his support of the LGBTQ community and the trans community, that his voting records speaks for itself,' the activist told The Daily Mail.
The fundraiser was co-hosted by local homosexual activists and the Human Rights Campaign, the Washington-based lobbying group.
Jonathan Covey, of Texas Values, tells American Family News the Senate candidate is obviously “trying to have it both ways” on the campaign trail.
"What's going on here is two different audiences are getting two different — very different — impressions,” Covey said.
Covey said Talarico's voting record in the Texas House is clear.
"We're not talking about just one stray vote that can be explained away,” Covey advised. “He got up and gave a very impassioned floor speech against the Save Women's Sports law, HB 25.”
Back at the homosexual fundraiser, Talarico’s apology and backtracking was “well received” by the audience, The Daily Mail reported.
