NewBostonPost reporter Tom Joyce, who has covered high school sports for years, says KIPP Academy's Lazuli Clark, a senior, is a three-sport athlete whom a pro-charter school news website identifies as a "transgender female."
"Lazuli Clark, in this past fall, was a league all-star in girls' volleyball and led the team in a few stat categories like digs, aces, and kills," Joyce relays.
Last spring, Clark set track and field records in the 400-meter hurdles and the shot put competition.
"Lazuli Clark can throw a shot put over 40 feet, and in some divisions in Massachusetts for girls' track and field, that would make you a state champion," the reporter explains. "So, that makes me wonder if we're going to see Lazuli Clark win a MIAA track and field state championship in the spring. I'll absolutely be on the lookout for that."
Earlier this month, Collegiate Charter School in Lowell forfeited its game against KIPP Academy at halftime after it suffered three injuries.
KIPP Academy's girls' basketball team went 11 and 9 this regular season, but despite having all 10 wins necessary to make it to the playoffs, the school is not on the bracket for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 Girls Basketball Playoffs.
"That indicates that the team voluntarily withdrew from the playoffs, thus canceling their season early," Joyce notes.
