The founder of a Christian sports ministry is hopeful Texas will ultimately emerge successful in its attempt to protect college-level women's sports from the trans agenda.

At a recent Young America's Foundation meeting in Dallas, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced he intends to ban trans athletes from competing in collegiate women's sports. In 2021, Abbott successfully banned trans athletes from girls' sports in Texas public schools.

"This next session, we will pass a law prohibiting biological men to compete against women in college sports," the governor declared at the 2023 Dallas Freedom Conference. "We've fought for the rights of women to be able to succeed in this world only to have that now superseded by this ideology that men are going to be empowered to compete against women."

Pushback came quickly from the pro-LGBTQ group Equality Texas, which claimed on Twitter the governor's plan would "abandon" trans athletes and "leave them without a way to express themselves in sports."

Steve McConkey, president of 4 WINDS Christian Athletics, points out that by banning men identifying as women from competing at the collegiate level Abbott will lock horns with the NCAA. "And I applaud him for this; I think this is a good move," he tells AFN. "And hopefully it's successful – and that if it gets in the courts they win."

McConkey urges parents to fight for their children and for future generations. "The momentum is increasing at the grassroots level," he contends. "And I think this goes beyond Democrat and Republican. People are rising up … it's time to speak and not sit down."

The ministry points out that 17 other states have passed laws prohibiting transgender athletes from competing against those of the opposite biological sex – but many are being challenged legally. But if Abbott is successful, Texas will join Florida in banning men identifying as women from competing in K-12 and college women's sports.

Breitbart News suggests that because Florida's ban has survived its legal challenges, Texas should also be successful.
