The athletes – which include U.S. women's soccer player Meghan Rapinoe – contend they need abortion to succeed in sports. The argument comes in a brief regarding the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case out of Mississippi.
"That is so wrong – and really, that is a misuse of the star power of these athletes," says Kristi Hamrick of Students for Life of America (SFLA).
"SFLA and Human Coalition Action have a brief at the Supreme Court in the Dobbs case saying very clearly that women do not need abortion to succeed; that we can manage to be successful at home, at career, and at more than one thing," adds Hamrick.
She also explains that SFLA has a "Pregnant and Parenting Rights Project" documenting what female athletes are allowed when pregnant or caring for a child.
"What's really tragic about this brief is that it's so misogynist – because women were told in previous generations that they were not smart enough to do well at home and at work, so just stay home," says the SFLA spokeswoman.
"Now, modern-day failed feminists tell women you're not smart enough, you're not talented enough to do well at home and career, so just stay at work – [and] it's the same message."
Hamrick feels badly for women who are being told by "their heroes" and that they should abort their children.
Argument for the Dobbs case has been set for December 1.
