Extraterrestrial life, if it exists, doesn't change eternal truth, says Jeffress

Responding to the reported release of documents related to UFOs, a Baptist pastor says his faith remains unshaken.

A number of Pentecostal preachers claimed late last week that government officials had invited them to a secret meeting with U.S. intelligence officials where they were told to prepare their churches for information that would upend the Christian faith.

One posed that if other creations in other galaxies exist, then people will say the creation story in Genesis is a myth.

Jeffress, Rev. Robert (FBC Dallas) Jeffress

Pastor Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas told Fox News he was not invited to that meeting, but he was also not worried because he knows the Bible, which is completely true, tells us everything we need to know—though that does not mean it tells us everything.

"When I think about creation, I think of Colossians 1:16," he said. "Jesus Christ created all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. All things were created by him and for him."

"If it was found, discovered that there is life on other planets, it would not shake my faith at all," the pastor continued. "There's nothing in the Bible that precludes life on other planets."

The document dump consisted mostly of videos of alleged unidentified flying objects doing strange things.

Jeffress remains unconvinced that extraterrestrials exist, but even if they did, he asserted that would not contradict Scripture.

"If that 'all things' includes life on other planets, so what?" he said. "It's the same God who created them who created us."

Jeffress expects people will be discovering mysteries surrounding God's creation until Jesus returns.

"Our planet, our galaxy is like a grain of sand on the Sahara Desert compared to the vastness of this universe," he said. "We serve a great God, a creative God who can do whatever he chooses to do."

He reiterated that he does not know everything about God's creation, but he does know what he needs to know: "God loved us so much that he sent his son, Jesus Christ, so that whoever believes in him may have eternal life."
