The topic of climate change seems cemented into the mainstream media's agenda. The perspective is mostly one-way: that mankind is to blame and that humans worldwide must act now to mitigate "catastrophic" effects. The action proposed would include more control over people's lives by governmental entities and would be costly.
Dr. Cal Beisner is president and founder of The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. Appearing on American Family Radio Wednesday, Beisner explained that when it comes to the topic of climate change, people typically are at one of two ends of the spectrum: either it's all a hoax – or it's climate "alarmism," like a "code red" for humanity. Both extremes, he said, are "simply wrong scientifically."
"Neither one of them fits very well with a biblical worldview – which recognizes that since God placed man on Earth to subdue it and have dominion over all of it, it's simply wrong to think that human activity cannot have any significant impact on the Earth," he shared. "Our position [at Cornwall Alliance] is that human-induced climate change is real, but it's not likely to be catastrophic."
He explained further that it comes down to adaptation versus mitigation, with the "climate alarmists" being in favor of the latter. Humans, he said, can adapt to changes in the climate; but the mitigation solution – which is to rapidly change from fossil fuels to green energy – would have harmful consequences.
"It would be economically disastrous," Beisner stated bluntly. "It would lead to the slowing, the stopping, or the reversing of the conquest of poverty around the world." (See related Cornwall article: Climate goals undermining global poverty reduction)
Earth's temperature naturally warms and cools through time, with warmer periods being typically more conducive to human thriving than colder periods. The Cornwall Alliance believes human addition of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide to the atmosphere may slightly raise temperatures.
Beisner added that the population control movement has always been a major aim of many alarmists.
