Oklahoma State Sen. Jerry Alvord sponsored legislation that allows parents to utilize age verification in order to keep pornography away from children on their computers and mobile phones.
The bill passed out of a Senate committee with only one “no” vote and then went to the floor, where it passed 41-5. It has now gone to the Oklahoma House.
“There was a long discussion in regards to it, which always amazes me,” Alvord tells AFN. “This one seemed like a no brainer to me but there are those who came out against it.”
Looking at other states that have passed similar laws, Sen. Alvord says he was told pornography use has dropped as much as 80% when a simple age verification is required.
Alvord might be referring to Louisiana, where porn giant PornHub reported web traffic dropped 80% after that state passed a similar law in 2022.
Six more states passed similar laws in 2023.
Alvord’s bill is expected to pass in the House and be signed into law by Gov. Kevin Stitt.
