According to the Guttmacher Institute, the driving force behind the surge in abortions is chemical abortion drugs, namely the two-step abortion pills known as mifepristone and misoprostol.
Steven Ertelt, editor of the pro-life LifeNews website, told American Family News abortion access has shifted to online access after the Dobbs ruling that kicked abortion back to the states.
“There used to be this conversation about whether women in states that ban abortion would go to other states to have abortions,” he said. “Now the question is will they order the abortion pill from their phone or their computer? That's what's happening."
Guttmacher estimates 91,000 chemical abortions occurred within states with strong pro-life laws.
The abortion pill mifepristone blocks progesterone and separates the fetus from the lining of the uterus. The second pill, misoprostol, mimics a woman in early labor to expel the fetus.
Meanwhile, Ertelt tells AFN abortion supporters have not slowed down their push for abortions in blue states where laws are already permissive. A controversial abortion bill is now sitting on the desk of Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey. It lifts the state’s remaining restrictions on abortion, which are already thin, to permit abortion up to birth.
Ertelt says the radical bill is abortion supporters “going all the way” with abortion in Massachusetts.
“No holds barred. No limits. No anything stopping abortion at any time period,” he warned.
