Florida fibbers arrested for fraud in pro-abortion petition drive

While a couple of abortion advocates appear to have falsified petition signatures, pro-life groups in Florida are depending on the truth to defeat a proposed pro-abortion constitutional amendment.

The proposed amendment, which would completely open the door to abortion and negate pro-life laws, is on the November ballot. Over 910,000 signatures – about 20,000 more than were needed – were gathered during a petition drive headed up by a coalition called Floridians Protecting Freedom that began in mid-April. Just this week, the "Yes on 4" campaign reported raising $11.7 million dollars in April and May alone.

However, Lynda Bell of Florida Right to Life tells AFN there was some chicanery involved in the petition drive to get Amendment 4 on the ballot.

"The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has arrested two people for ballot fraud in both Florida and Kansas," Bell reports. "It looks like they falsified by forging multiple signatures on the Florida initiative, and they are being charged with multiple counts."

While the two individuals are accused of submitting 133 fake petition signatures, Bell argues "this puts into doubt the rest of the signatures that were gathered in this petition grabbing."

In addition, the pro-life activist shares she was present three different times at signature-gathering booths where the workers were lying to get signatures.

"So once again we have come to the conclusion that the only way the pro-abortion, leftist extremists can win is by lying," she contends, "and the only way that we're going to be able to beat back this deceptive Amendment 4 is by telling people the truth."

According to Bell, polls indicate both sides of the issue are neck-and-neck, so the deciding factor is likely going to be whether pro-lifers show up at the polls and vote against the amendment.
