Passage of Issue 1 would enshrine abortion as a right in the Ohio Constitution, which is why abortion supporters are pouring money and volunteers behind a “yes” vote in the conservative-leaning red state. In their view, it would be a huge victory.
Reacting to that possibility, Pastor Brian Williams of Hope City House of Prayer tells AFN the abortion push reminds him of Margaret Sanger, the Planned Parenthood founder. She is famous not only for encouraging birth control but for embracing eugenics and for looking down on large poor families, especially blacks.
“Where I live in the state of Ohio, African-American people represent 13% of the population and account for about 49% of all abortions,” the pastor laments.
That statistic is possible, he concludes, because abortion clinics are located in black communities and advertise their services to black women.
According to a LifeNews.com article, Williams and more than 100 other black clergy have signed their names to a letter that denounces Issue 1 and reminds black Ohioans who is being targeted by abortion clinics.
“[Margaret] Sanger’s mission was to kill Black babies before they entered the world, and Planned Parenthood and the for-profit abortion industry have allowed that mission to continue to this very day,” the letter reads.
Asked by AFN how he responds to pro-abortion arguments, Williams says he views it as a human-rights issue because the unborn child deserves to live.
“And I would challenge people who feel that their role is to back up to just take a look at history,” he says. “Whenever good people have been silent, and backed up, evil has prevailed.”
