Abortion supporters are working right now to put a constitutional amendment on the 2024 ballot that pro-life groups warn will open the door wide open for abortion, even for partial-birth abortion.
Citing just one goal of several, Cathi Herrod of the Center for Arizona Policy tells AFN a successful voter referendum would strip parents of the right to know if their daughter undergoes an abortion.
Arizona’s current law bans abortions at 15 weeks into the pregnancy with few exceptions. If the amendment passes, abortions would be allowed until a preborn baby reaches the point of surviving outside the womb, which is 21 to 24 weeks gestation.
“It basically is one of the most far-reaching measures we have seen on abortion in any state,” Herrod warns.
Proponents have to get 383,000 valid signatures of registered voters to qualify for the 2024 ballot.
Herrod says the pro-abortion side has the financial backing to hit the streets and gather the signatures but she predicts the issue will divide voters.
“If Arizona voters will see how extreme it is, and how far reaching it is,” she predicts, “then we have a very good chance to see victory in November of 2024.”
