A liberal congresswoman is departing Congress after losing a Democrat primary but she is leaving with a plan to use taxpayers’ dollars to support and promote abortion.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney has introduced the Abortion Care Awareness Act, which directs the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to promote a “public health campaign” to help women obtain an abortion, according to a fawning NBC News story about the bill.

“She is trying to find ways to get women across state lines,” says Carol Tobias of the National Right to Life Committee, “to get them information about where and how they can kill their unborn child.”

Not only does the bill promote abortion, warns Tobias, it violates free-speech rights by cracking down on pro-life pregnancy centers through a federal agency.

According a Live Action story about the bill, the federal government would provide “guidance” to pregnant women to help them find an abortion clinic and not mistakenly find a pro-life pregnancy center. Those pro-life clinics engage in “misinformation” about abortion and discourage women from obtaining one, according to the bill’s language.

Maloney is departing Congress after redistricting forced her into a party primary earlier this summer against Rep. Jerry Nadler. He handily defeated her 56%-24% to represent the new 12th District.
