Democrat Annie Andrews is Fox News’ projected winner of the South Carolina race with 51% to 47% for Darline Graham.
Andrews’ victory flips the seat in a state Trump won by almost 18 points in 2024. It’s the first time in 28 years that a Democrat has won a U.S. Senate election in South Carolina.
Graham was appointed by Gov. Henry McMaster to serve out her brother’s unexpired time in office.
A political novice, she announced her candidacy for a full six-year term and was quickly embraced by Trump. She defeated U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman 52.6%-47.4% in the primary.
Andrews, a pediatrician, previously challenged Republican U.S. House member Nancy Mace in 2022.
Healthcare and affordability issues were key talking points in her campaign.
