Greg Abbot warns Texans about his left-wing gubernatorial opponent

Greg Abbot warns Texans about his left-wing gubernatorial opponent

The Texas governor says his opponent is more to the left than Senate Democrat candidate James Talarico.

The governor's race is between Democrat Gina Hinojosa and incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has a political affiliate known as CAIR Action, which happens to be supporting Gina Hinojosa.

The governor made these comments regarding their partnership on Fox News recently.

"This is a huge issue both in this campaign as well as across the state of Texas because I designated both the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) as foreign terrorist organizations because of the danger they pose in our state," Abbot said.

And despite the designation, Abbott noted that his opponent has their endorsement.

"One reason why she (Hinojosa) has their endorsement is because I signed a law banning Muslim-only communities. She voted against that law, and so, she is aligned with CAIR and their type of operations," Abbot said. "Let me tell you this… people know very well how radical and crazy Talarico is. What a lot of people do not know is that my opponent Gina is further to the radical left than Talarico is."

Hinojosa grew up in Texas and attended college at the University of Texas at Austin and George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. She as been serving in the Texas House of Representatives for House District 49 since 2017.

According to the Houstin Chronicle, Hinojosa is against the banning of abortion rights and so-called gender-affirming care. But she claimed rolling back related Texas measures would not be her focus if elected governor, seeing it "unrealistic" in a red state and would rather focus on bipartisan efforts to provide "economic relief to working families."

However, in the Fox interview, Abbott pointed out that a constitutional ban on a state income tax was passed in Texas, but Hinojosa voted against it.

Saenz, Jonathan (Texas Values) Saenz

Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values Action, thinks Abbott's point about his opponent has really not gotten a lot of attention. However, according to Saenz, Hinojosa has been rated as one of the most liberal members of the Texas House before running for governor.

"There's been a lot of attention around the Senate race with Talarico and Ken Paxton, but his (Abbott's) opponent has taken a number of very left-leaning radical positions herself, and she poses the same level of danger on our values as Talarico," Saenz warns.

Along with Hinojosa, Talarico has also been designated as CAIR Action's preferred Senate candidate.
