If elected governor, Ramaswamy vows to crack down on Ohio's 'sanctuary cities'

If elected governor, Ramaswamy vows to crack down on Ohio's 'sanctuary cities'

If elected governor, Ramaswamy vows to crack down on Ohio's 'sanctuary cities'

Republican Vivek Ramaswamy says he will put an end to sanctuary cities if he is elected governor of Ohio.

During an Oct 12 rally in Youngstown, Ohio, President Donald Trump warned the crowd what will happen if Democrats return to power.

“They will immediately re-open our borders, and once again flood Ohio cities and towns with migrants from the most corrupt and dangerous places on the planet. Just look at what's happening in the once-great state of Minnesota, what a mess they have done. Somalia, wonderful, wonderful,” Trump stated.

Featured on a Republicans X post, Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate for governor of Ohio, has vowed to end sanctuary cities “from Cincinnati to Cleveland” at a different rally.

Ramaswamy also told American Family News he will work with the president on immigration.

“I think we should collaborate with ICE, and I don't think that should be controversial. I think the people of this state are worse off when state officials or local officials try to get in the way of federal officials actually enforcing the rule of law,” Ramaswamy said. “We want to do it right there with them. The fact that President Trump and I have a good relationship — we've spoken about this — will help us collaborate in so many ways.”

According to Ramaswamy, he will put an end to the sanctuary status of cities like his hometown of Cincinnati.

“It's shameful to see it declare itself as a sanctuary city, or places like Cleveland doing the same. We have to restore the rule of law. We have to enforce it. We have to go after Medicaid waste, fraud, and abuse,” Ramaswamy told AFN.

“And we should collaborate with the U.S. president and the federal government to bring back that rule of law to our state. I won't apologize about defending the greatness of Ohio and defending the greatness of our country," he addd.

AFN has reached out to Democrat gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton for a response but has not heard back from her campaign.
