The Christian Post reports that an episode of “The Weekend Show” podcast in 2024 has recently gone viral, where James Talarico trotted out his latest religious take.
“Christians and Muslims and Jews all worship the same God. Muslims love Jesus. They love Moses and Abraham. We are all branches on the same tree as the Abrahamic faith,” Talarico said.
However, biblical apologist Dr. Alex McFarland begs to differ.
“Let me tell you who would disagree with that statement — Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 8:24, ‘If you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sin,’” McFarland states.
It's not the first time McFarland has needed to correct the faulty theology of the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminarian. Talarico has said, at various times, that the Bible approves of abortion, that God is non-binary and that the Bible doesn't oppose homosexuality.
“So, by his own doctrinal stance, Talarico is a lost sinner that needs to meet the Jesus that he, at present, is absolutely clueless about,” McFarland says.
In the same podcast, Talarico was sure to link evangelical Christianity, which he calls "Christian Nationalism," with Islamic terrorism.
“It's heartbreaking to watch extremists, whether they are Christian nationalists or whether they're the Taliban or Al Qaeda, perverting these beautiful traditions that have so much in common,” Talarico said.
McFarland says the roots of Islam were set up to be radical and anti-Christian.
“Islam was started in 610 A.D. simply to be in conscious opposition to Judaism and Christianity,” McFarland states.
Senate Race
According to an average of polls compiled by Real Clear Polling, Talarico has a more than a 1.2 percentage point lead over his opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Republican Senate candidate has been blasting out emails telling potential donors that his Democrat opponent has $21.5 million in the bank, while he himself is just shy of $7 million. Paxton claims Talarico has been able to use that cash advantage to build that small lead.
Many pundits fear that the far-left wing radical might pull it off.
Cathie Adams is a former chairman of the Republican Party of Texas and serves as second vice president of Eagle Forum. She doesn't believe, no matter what the poll numbers say, that Talarico has a chance of winning the U.S. Senate seat from the Lone Star State.
“I don't care what poll says that he's looking good. I question all of such polls. Talarico is out of step with every Texan and most every American. He is radical, he is extreme, a man who professes to be a Christian, but he is ashamed of Jesus,” Adams says.
She points out that, clearly, Paxton has a lot of personal issues that don't play well with many Texans. While she no fan of Paxton, she acknowledges that he is the better of two choices.
“I think it's going to be a matter of holding our noses and voting for Paxton. I don't think it's going to be an exciting race, but I think that I would rather have six years of Paxton than Talarico any day of the week," Adams says.
