A policy expert says that might be news to Americans who have been taken in by deceptive internet posts.
It was almost a victory lap when Trump told the American people we are not only winning the war but winning decisively.
“In these past four weeks, our armed forces have delivered swift, decisive, overwhelming victories on the battlefield. Victories like few people have ever seen before,” Trump said.
Work remains, but the end is certain, Trump said.
Gary Bauer of American Values says that might come as a surprise to a large swath of Americans who get their news from social media.
“Apparently, a lot of Americans think we are losing, literally losing the war in Iran because all sorts of fake images and stories have been put up on social media.”
Bauer says this is the first war that is being fought as much on social media as it is on the battlefield. He says it's important to tune into credible news sources and take stock of what hasn't happened as much as what has.
“The short answer to how we can conclude that we've won is that it's every day that goes by and there's not an announcement that Iran has a nuclear weapon,” Bauer said.
Trump said there are still two to three weeks of hard work ahead, but it is important to close out strong.
“Imagine the closing of the Gulf of Hormuz on steroids, because if Iran gets a nuclear weapon, if that nuclear weapon is in the hands of death worshippers that are looking forward to dying because they believe they'll go straight to heaven, that is a world that our children and grandchildren are not going to want to live in,” Bauer said.
