The Alabama lawmaker made the statement on a post on X, along with the posting of two pictures: on the left of the twin towers burning on 9-11 and on the right of New York's Islamist Mayor Zohran Mamdani, recently hosting a Ramadan dinner at Gracie Mansion.
The posting drew the expected negative reaction from Democrats, reports People. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) are two Democrats who have criticized Tuberville’s post.
“No, Senator. Bigotry is the enemy inside. It sickens the soul that carries it and corrupts the nation that embraces it,” Warnock posted on X. Warnock is also a Baptist pastor who addressed to Tuberville that their Christian faith teaches that “LOVE is the only way.”
“This is mindless hate,” Schumer posted on X. “Islamophobic hate like this is fundamentally un-American, and we must confront and overcome it whenever it rears its ugly head.”
Mamdani even addressed the comment on X and at an Iftar, a fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan, that he hosted. He also noted other quotes from Republicans regarding him, 9/11, and Muslims, calling the speech “hatred and disdain unchecked in its rancor.”
Tuberville, who wants to be Alabama's next governor, made the same assessment during a speech on the Senate floor in late January.
"For months, I've been raising the alarm over radical Islam infiltrating the greatest country on the face of the earth, the United States of America,” Tuberville said. “Some Americans see what's happening in Europe, and they think, ‘you know, would that ever happened in our country?’ The reality is yes. It's happening right now, right before our very eyes. The enemy is now inside the gates."
Tuberville issued an early warning that day regarding Mamdani and New York City.
"Under Joe Biden, millions of illegal aliens, including terrorists, murderers and rapists, were planted there to completely destroy the freedom-loving voter base, all on purpose. As a result, a foreign-born Muslim communist who hates the greatest nation on earth and wants to change it is now in power," Tuberville stated.
