Paxton leads polling in three-way race on eve of GOP primary

Weighing in on a three-way GOP primary in Texas, a conservative veteran of Texas politics says she knows which U.S. Senate candidate she is not voting for.

Even though President Trump is remaining neutral in the Republican primary, which is March 3, Cathie Adams told American Family News she doesn’t support Ken Paxton, the current Texas attorney general. That’s because Paxton has been accused of being unfaithful to his wife, Angela, who is a current state senator.

“I would be happy with John Cornyn. I would be happy with Wesley Hunt,” Adams said. “But I would not be happy with Ken Paxton because of the immorality. I just don't think that that is a good representative for the state of Texas. It's not good for our future."

Several political polls at RealClearPolitics show Paxton with a narrow single-digit lead over Cornyn, with Hunt trailing far behind. The polls average to show Paxton leading Cornyn 40%-36%.

Last week, President Trump made a trip to Texas but did not endorse a candidate in tomorrow’s primary.

A longtime critic of Sen. Cornyn is Jesse Kelly, the blunt-talking show host on The First. Kelly, who lives in Texas, has warned about Cornyn for years, accusing him of being a sneaky “RINO” who routinely blocks a conservative agenda in the U.S. Senate.

Back in 2024, when GOP senators were looking for new leadership, Kelly was furious when Cornyn’s name was being floated. The senators eventually chose John Thune.

“I cannot put into words how disastrous this would be,” Kelly wrote at the time. “If you could get in a lab and build the worst person to be the next GOP senate leader, you’d build @JohnCornyn.”

The polls cited by RCP include four polls in all, three showing Paxton leading and one with Cornyn leading.
