Bauer: Old Dominion is definitely the Democrats' domain

Considering last night's election results, a conservative activist says it's time to admit that Virginia is clearly a blue state.

Democrats swept The Old Dominion last night, with Abigail Spanberger (pictured above) winning the governor's race, state Sen. Ghazala F. Hashmi winning the race for lieutenant governor, and Jay Jones, a former state delegate who mused about shooting the former GOP speaker of the House of Delegates in the head, won the race for attorney general.

Bishop E.W. Jackson calls yesterday's outcome "a complete failure of the Republican apparatus in Virginia" and says two things went wrong.

Jackson, E.W. (STAND) Jackson

"We lost the women's vote big because I don't think we're taking the message to women ... about wanting to help them live flourishing lives with their children as opposed to destroying their unborn baby," he notes. "The black vote voted 93-97% for Democrats, which means we haven't been taking the message to the black community that the Democrat Party's policies are against everything the black community represents and believes in."

He has long said the GOP needs to "scrap what they've got and start all over again, because it's not working."

Bauer, Gary Bauer

Gary Bauer, chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, has lived in Virginia for decades and chalks the losses up to changing demographics.

"Virginia ain't your father's Virginia anymore," he tells AFN. "It's been massively changed in its population."

He also believes President Donald Trump's "necessary" attack on the federal bureaucracy has affected a lot of families in Northern Virginia.

"They're voting for government to start growing again, so they voted for the Democrats," Bauer summarizes.

He says Virginia has been trending in this direction for a long time.

"Donald Trump wasn't able to win it [when] he won the national popular vote last year," he recalls. "I think that we've got to stop calling Virginia purple; admit that Virginia is now a blue state, and it's going to be very difficult to get it back, if not impossible."

Despite the loss, Bishop Jackson urges voters to not give up and to continue to occupy until Christ returns.
