In a recent Emerson College poll Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears still trails Democrat Abigail Spanberger by 11 points. Sears has pledged to continue the policies of incumbent Republican Gov. Glen Youngkin, who has cooperated with federal authorities in rounding up illegal aliens and has cracked down on radical transgender policies.
Gary Bauer is Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families who has lived in Virginia for decades. During an appearance on American Family Radio, he pointed out it’s all about demographics.
"We've watched it change right in front of our eyes. In Fairfax County here in Northern Virginia, the most populous county in the state, a majority of people in Fairfax county were not born in the United States. That's just an extraordinary statistic, and in addition to that you've got millions of federal employees and their families in Virginia."
And Bauer says Republicans are up against an historical pattern.
"In these off-year elections in New Jersey and in Virginia, they almost always vote for the party that is not currently in the White House. So, all those things, I think point to a very difficult challenge (for Republicans) in Virginia as well as in New Jersey, although it does appear to be closer there."
