Brown, who has held the powerful seat since 2007, is currently holding a single-digit lead over GOP challenger Bernie Moreno in polls cited by RealClearPolitics. Those polls give the Democrat an average of 3.3 percent over Moreno.
In two other polls, however, by ActiVote and RMG Research, Moreno leads Brown by 2.2 points and 2 points respectively.
Ohio, once a swing state for both parties, is considered a more reliable red state for Republicans. Donald Trump won the state 53%-45% over Joe Biden in 2020, much the same margin as 2016 when voters chose Trump over Hillary Clinton.
Republicans control the public offices for governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and treasurer, and the other Ohio senator is none other than Donald Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance.
Tom Zawistowski, who leads the We the People Convention in Ohio, tells AFN the poll suggests Moreno is closing in on Brown as Nov. 5 nears.
“I'm very impressed with what I'm seeing,” he says of the Senate race. “Ohio's going to play a big role in swinging the Senate and the House, and Bernie Moreno is a key victory over a Democrat 40 years in politics, Sherrod Brown.”
According to a related New York Post story, Moreno is gaining ground on Brown over three issues: the Trump-Vance president ticket; sticking to a message on job creation and the economy; and promising to crack down on illegal immigration.
Moreno is currently hitting Ohio voters with "very effective" political ads, Zawistowski advises, and he predicts the GOP challenger will win by five or six points on Election Day.
