During a weekend appearance on Fox News, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy suggested Democrats on Capitol Hill are worried.
“They know they're going to lose,” he told the news channel. “They have the smallest majority that they've had in a hundred years."
In the House, Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi is presiding over a chamber with an eight-seat majority, and the Senate is split 50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris serving as a tie-breaking vote.
Mirroring the prediction from Rep. McCarthy, Gary Bauer of the Campaign for Working Families says GOP leaders appear to have learned to fight back after disappointing their base for years.
“I think they're doing better than they used to before Donald Trump,” he told American Family Radio. “I think Donald Trump has taught many up-and-coming Republican leaders how to govern, and more importantly how to fight back, those Republican governors who have really done an outstanding job in their states.”
In the coming months, Bauer says the GOP needs to focus on election integrity --- not allowing Democrats to cheat --- and to learn from Trump’s populist message that resonated with voters.
