International Christian Concern, the international watchdog group, reports that Bethel Baptist High School was attacked in the early-morning hours on July 5 and 153 students were kidnapped.
Who grabbed the students and ran? ICC spokesman Nathan Johnson says no one has taken credit for the violence, and that means the kidnappers could be Filani militants (pictured above), a criminal gang, or the Muslim fighters of Boko Haram.
Regardless of who took the students, the fact they are Christians makes their situation perilous, and the national government is not going to help.
“They're not going to do enough as they would have if they were Muslim children, like we've seen twice before,” Johnson advises. “Or the third option is kind of a mixture of both: The kidnappers don't want to let the Christians go and the federal government doesn't care enough or doesn't want to have the children released.”
ICC and Johnson are calling on Christians worldwide to pray for the students and their safety.
