America's entire way of life is at stake thanks to the ongoing cultural revolution. If our progressive Left wins the revolution to transform society and communist China gets its way, most everything our founders put in place – and especially the pro-West, post-Cold War world order – is at risk. Let me explain.
There is a lot of political talk about democracy being under attack by both the Biden and Trump camps. Certainly, the Biden camp has weaponized the legal system – lawfare – to keep Mr. Trump in court, while Mr. Biden "hits" the campaign trail chasing his re-election. He has an uphill fight given his failed policies that produced our horrible economy – high inflation, weakened dollar and out-of-control government spending; a radically broken southern border that so far allowed at least 10 million illegals to flood the country demanding their unearned share of our wealth; and a foreign policy that sparks one war after another. Chaos reigns, thanks to Biden's progressive policies!
"We have in the White House a puppet of the Left who is compromising everything about America. And as a direct result, we have seen all of these things accelerate in a way that is beginning to make us all wonder whether or not America can survive these terrible changes." (Robert Maginnis, in an interview with AFN)
Meanwhile, as Biden gives democracy a bad name across the world, our totalitarian adversaries – China, Russia, Iran et al. – are campaigning for a new vision for the world. So, as the world community watches as America implodes under Biden, the communists in Beijing lead the way for their fellow autocrats to introduce a new world order – and little wonder many nations are beginning to rethink their place in this world, especially with the U.S. seemingly going down the toilet.
Consider the alternative vision Chinese President Xi Jinping offers to a confused world. For our future, Xi seeks to dissolve America's network of alliances (e.g., NATO), topple our dollar, eliminate our dominance on technology, and wipe clean our values from international bodies (e.g., IMF, UN). In their place, the Chinese leader, with the help of his totalitarian allies, seeks to create a multipolar world order, whereby institutions are supported by Chinese notions of common security and economic development, values of state-determined political rights and Chinese technology. In the process, our civil liberties die!
Mr. Xi boasts that Beijing already runs a "confident, self-reliant, open and inclusive major country," which seeks to transform global order "with a shared future for mankind." To help realize this future vision, Mr. Xi has already implemented four Chinese worldwide programs: Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative.
Even though Beijing remains unpopular in many parts of the world, China's ambitious four global programs shouldn't be dismissed because they are comprehensive, well-resourced and well-executed. They also touch most countries, such as BRI, which has a relationship with 150 countries.
Therefore, given the issues tearing at the fabric of the U.S., the growing suspicion about the West's failing international system, there is little wonder Mr. Xi and his allies are gaining traction for a new world order better aligned with autocrats than Democrats.
Will the U.S. and the West continue to give in to the cultural revolution hosted by progressives? Or alternatively, will the U.S. – and by association, the balance of the West – return to those things that made it successful: transparency, rule of law, civil liberties, accountability and open markets?
