Iran broke the fragile ceasefire and attacked several commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz this week, and President Donald Trump's patience appears to have finally run out.
“To me, I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore. They're scum. These are evil sick people, and we have to rid their cancer. They’re cancer. And you know what you do? You got to cut out cancer early.”
The president says the U.S. military has resumed air strikes, but military analyst Col. Robert Maginnis says that's not going to solve anything.
“Yeah, we can bomb, but bombs aren't going to do it. We can only turn big rocks into smaller rocks, and that's not going to do it.”
He says the president finds himself in a no-win situation. The regime will not die of its own implosion. It is hundreds of layers thick, and it has been ideologically brainwashed for half a century.
“I don't think that we can totally remove this cancer, as Trump has rightly called it, easily. It should have started decades and decades ago, but it didn't. The West has failed to seed an organic capability that is armed and willing to go into Tehran and slit the throats of these scoundrels,” Maginnis said.
It’s time for Trump to lean on his NATO allies to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, hope that stabilizes the global economy and focus his attention on rescuing the last two years of his domestic agenda. Fortunately, Democrats are cooperating.
“If the Democrats implode, if the Republicans can take advantage of them rocketing to the left and scaring the American people to embrace the Republicans, that's the best opportunity,” Maginnis said.
