Annual report says U.S. will not know China attacks Taiwan until too late

An expert on Communist China is concerned about a new report that says the Chinese regime is in a state of turmoil that could very well end up in a war over Taiwan.

Recently, the U.S.-China Economic Security Review Commission released its annual report for the year 2025 to Congress. According to the report, the Chinese Communist Party and its military forces are preparing their entire country for a future war with the United States over Taiwan. The executive summary regarding the reports focus on Taiwan states a crucial phase has been reached regarding Beijing’s effort to rule over the island country.

According to the summary, “China’s persistent military activities near Taiwan, combined with new capabilities such as large amphibious assault ships and mobile piers, have enhanced China’s capacity to blockade or launch an invasion of Taiwan with little advance warning.”

Gordon Chang is an Asian policy analyst and author of "Plan Red: China's Project to Destroy America." He says that the big takeaway from the reports is that China is on a war footing.

“Because of their preparations, there will be very little notice when China decides to actually invade Taiwan or do something else,” states Chang. “For instance, this report talks about how these exercises that China is conducting near Taiwan look like rehearsals for war and that China can make the decision during one of these exercises to actually invade, and we would not know that until maybe it's too late."

During an interview on Washington Watch, Chang says that things inside China are getting out of control.

"The one thing that I'm concerned about is that China, essentially because of the turmoil inside the regime right now, could end up in a war not because it decides to go to war but because of the confrontation that cannot be controlled right now,” comments Chang. “The Chinese regime in a state of turmoil can't deescalate, can't act constructively with the international community, and therefore very well locked itself into war along with everybody else.”

Chang states that the U.S. must get into a war footing itself.
