The slaughter of Christians by Islamic Jihadists in Nigeria has President Trump concerned. According to Global Christian Relief, more than 52,000 Christians have been killed in the past fourteen years, simply for the crime of being Christians.
The BBC reports that Trump, when asked about military intervention, said that they could deploy troops to carry out airstrikes in Nigeria.
"They're killing record numbers of Christians in Nigeria. They're killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We’re not going to allow that to happen," answered Trump.
He wrote on a Truth Social post that the U.S. will take action if the Nigerian government does not stop this Christian persecution. The post reads, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!”
Bob Maginnis is a military strategist and author of more than a dozen books on national defense. He says that the U.S. already have military assets in the region.
"We've operated drones out of Niger and a couple other places, some of which are secret. We have Special Forces people doing all sorts of things so I'm not surprised,” states Maginnis. “What he (Trump) would likely do is argue that this is a counterterrorism activity — that yes, certainly the Boko Haram and some of the other Islamist groups are being very decisive in their genocidal ways against Christians."
Maginnis says he would not be surprised if Trump intervenes.
"I think it would be welcomed, certainly, by the Christian community there and welcomed by many others as well,” states Maginnis.
