Maginnis: Expect Putin to have certain demands before ending war in Ukraine

A national defense analyst and Pentagon advisor believes Russian President Vladimir Putin (shown above) will have several demands, before he agrees to peace talks with Ukraine.

President Donald Trump has lifted suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing with Kyiv, a week after imposing the measures to push Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (shown below in meeting with Trump) to enter talks to end the war with invading Russian forces.

Ukraine also said it was open to a 30-day cease-fire in the war with Russia, subject to Kremlin agreement.

U.S. special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is expected to travel later this week to Moscow, where he could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Bob Maginnis is a retired army officer, national defense strategist and author of "Preparing for World War III."

"The fact is the Ukrainians were pressured by Trump, which is true, to seek a peace agreement, which I think favors both sides, but it's what it is. We'll see what Steve Witkoff comes away with after he meets with Putin next week."

Maginnis says Putin is going to ask for certain things and he's not going to go to the peace talks or even grant a 30-day ceasefire unless he gets some of them.

"He probably wants to make sure that there's no security guarantees for Ukraine-long term. He probably wants to not give away any more land than necessary because he seized not only the Crimea which dates back prior to this war but also the eastern parts of Ukraine, the Donbass and the like. So, he doesn’t want to give away any land."

Maginnis thinks Trump will offer to ease some sanctions against Russia in order to get Putin to the peace talks.
