Eastern European Mission delivered an estimated 1.5 million Bibles to Eastern Europe in 2021, where it works with churches and ministries, but the current war has forced the ministry to re-evaluate its current mission in a war-torn region with tens of thousands of refugees.
Dirk Smith, a spokesman for EEM, says the ministry has agreed to be a “dollar-for-dollar pass-through” to help other trusted ministries and organizations purchase badly-needed supplies, such as mattresses and medical supplies.
Ukraine may not be familiar to many Americans but many international ministries know the country has a huge network of evangelical churches. Since Russia invaded in late February, that network has helped ministries distribute aid in the war-torn country.
Smith points out that EEM has not abandoned its mission to distribute Bibles, however, and so it launched the “Bibles for Kids” campaign.
“Which is for the sole purpose of providing Bibles to children in 19 different languages,” Smith says. “A bulk of those are now going to be going to refugee children, who are Ukrainian refugee children who are pouring into these bordering nations.”
