The request from Concerned Women for America (CWA) comes after a proceeding the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opened in response to concerns that TV ratings are not giving parents sufficient information about content in the programs.
"We know that a lot of people were caught off guard last fall when it became sort of this topic of discussion on the internet that there was a considerable amount of LGBTQ messaging showing up in children's programs, but nothing in the current rating system would warn parents that that's there," Melissa Henson, senior policy advisor for CWA, tells AFN.
She says a lot of parents were already allowing their children to watch shows like "The Magic School Bus Rides Again," "Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City" and "The Baby-Sitters Club" and "Power Rangers" reboots not realizing the kind of messaging their kids were receiving from these shows that they assumed were okay because they are rated G, Y or Y7.
Henson says this proceeding from the FCC provides an opportunity for parents to express their discontent and dissatisfaction with this system that was designed by the entertainment industry to protect the entertainment industry and allow them to continue business as usual without any accountability from parents and no oversight.
"They created a closed system that's designed to protect their interests over the interests of families, and that's not how it was designed to be," says Henson. "That's not how it was intended to be when Congress authorized the creation of the rating system."
CWA's December 2025 analysis of Netflix programming rated appropriate for children revealed that 41% of G-rated series and 41% of TV-Y7-rated series contain LGBTQ content, showing that Netflix is an "active driver" of the LGBTQ agenda.
But as the problem persists across streaming platforms and across broadcasting and cable television, she is sure that similar "unacceptable" numbers would be found on PBS Kids, Nickelodeon and Disney+.
"It's a growing problem and one that I think many parents are not aware is happening," Henson laments.
