Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) took to the House floor Wednesday to list all the Republicans that had taken campaign contributions from Jeffrey Epstein. One of those names was current Trump Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Lee Zeldin, who almost immediately clapped back on X saying that he had indeed taken money from a Jeffrey Epstein but not the Jeffrey Epstein.
CNN host Kaitlan Collins asked Crockett about it on her show.
Collins: “Do you want to correct the record?”
Crockett: “I never said that it was that Jeffrey Epstein.”
Getting out her proverbial shovel, she tried to dig herself out by saying that she was actually doing a sting operation.
“I wanted the Republicans to think about what could potentially happen because I knew that they didn't even try to go through the FEC (Federal Election Commission),” said Crockett.
To her credit, Collins was having none of it.
Collins: “Yeah, but people might see that and say, 'well, you're trying to make it sound like he took money from a registered sex offender'.”
Crockett: “No, I made sure that I was clear that it was a Jeffrey Epstein, but I never said that it was specifically that Jeffrey Epstein.”
Crockett further defends herself by saying that there was not enough time to verify who this Jeffrey Eipstein was just by searching on the FEC files before reporting this to the House. However, Zeldin has responded on X that the FEC report states that this Epstein was a physician and the donation from took place after the other Epstein was dead.
Robert Knight, a columnist for the Washington Times, says that Democrats seem to see lying as a tool rather than a vice.
“They feel that lying or telling the truth are just different arrows in your quiver. Whatever works best,” explains Knight.
He says that eventually it becomes second nature.
“Compulsive liars actually believe it themselves, whatever they're saying at any given time,” states Knight.
