Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca Taibleson has been nominated for the 7thCircuit Court of Appeals.
Among her defenders is legal expert Robert P. George, who calls her a “superb” nominee.
A Wall Street Journal article similarly praised her as a “serious nominee” on an appeals court with a razor-thin majority of conservatives.
Conservative Action Project, a coalition of the Right, is publicly lobbying to get President Donald Trump to withdraw the nomination.
Phillip Jauregui of AFA Action, the political arm of American Family Association, says AFA Action opposes Taibleson’s nomination for several reasons.
"One is her associations with pro-trans ideology," says Jauregui. "She attended a liberal Jewish congregation that was pro-trans. She gave money to a pro-trans organization, an organization that supported the trans agenda, and then finally the liberal rabbi that married her now works for a congregation that is also pro-trans."
Taibleson also worked for the Department of Justice during the Biden administration. She used her legal skills to fight for and defend President Biden’s controversial plan to erase student loan debt.
In a detailed X post thread about Taibleson’s politics, AFA Action president Walker Wildmon points out she was recommended for the 7th Circuit by U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a liberal Wisconsin Democrat.
The X post also fills in some gaps about her politics and faith. Taibleson attends a liberal Jewish synagogue, Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun, located in River Hills, Wisconsin.
Even though the nomination might look bad for Trump, Jauregui says he blames the people who advised him and not the president. There are other good candidates, he insists, if Taibleson's nomination is removed.
"So for them to go with someone, who is this questionable, is not necessary," Jauregui says. "Ultimately I think President Trump will probably withdraw the nomination."
