The faces arriving to support Trump have been mostly lawmakers, including U.S. senators Rick Scott, JD Vance, Tommy Tuberville, and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis on Monday.
House Speaker Mike Johnson was there Tuesday, along with Representatives Byron Donald and Cory Mills.
Also on hand Tuesday were North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Vivek Ramaswamy, who was a Trump rival for the GOP nomination a few months ago.
"This is a politicized persecution that is nakedly apparent," Ramaswamy told reporters outside the courthouse.
Trump is charged with falsifying business records related to hush money payments over an alleged affair with former porn actress Stormy Daniels.
The general theme of the liberal media's coverage is the attendees are seeking to gain Trump’s favor should he be elected president in November.
The Hill referenced the “Hot new GOP Club.”
The Washington Post spoke of Republicans in a “flock to court to kiss the ring.”
“Ambitious Republicans are eagerly parachuting onto the sidelines of the first criminal trial of a former president, with a lineup that includes former Trump critics plunging themselves into the proceedings,” The Washington Post wrote.
Some on social media mocked the group for wearing similar suits.
'This is injustice at its worse'
What’s gone unmentioned in the unhappy media reports is the likely concern any one of them could be next.
In a live appearance outside the courtroom, Ramaswamy spoke for five minutes where he described the allegations against Trump about falsifying business records.
"Imagine if the same shoe fit the other foot. Imagine if it was Joe Biden that was on trial," he told the media. "You had a Republican judge, whose son was collecting millions of dollars as a Republican operative. What would you all be saying? This would not be justice. This is injustice at its worst."
“This is a trial, and it should be fair, but obviously it’s not,” Sen. Tuberville said on "Washington Watch" Tuesday.
“There’s a lot of prejudice going on from the Democratic side," he said. "They want Donald Trump to be pulled out as the representative for the Republican party for president of the United States, but it’s not going to work.”
Participation in the proceedings is precisely the point because when the day is done, Trump cannot legally comment due to a gag order.
“He’s got this gag order on him," Tuberville complained. "This is a one-way street, all Democrats, all politicized from the judge on down."
Meanwhile, Michael Cohen, the prosecution’s supposed star witness, cashes in on the trial with TikTok videos.
Cohen described as a lying 'fixer'
"We’ve got a crooked witness who should be in jail right now for all he’s done, how he’s lied," Tuberville, referring to Cohen, said. "He even got on the stand and said, ‘Yeah, I lie sometimes to make sure I get my point over and win being a lawyer.'"
Cohen has also said on the stand that he’s only lied to benefit Trump in his association as an attorney and what many call “fixer” for the former President.
Attorney and legal analyst Jonathan Turley, in an op-ed for The New York Post, says Cohen has lied on behalf of himself as well.
“Cohen has lied to Congress, courts, special counsels, the IRS, the banks, and virtually every creature that walks or crawls on the face of the Earth.
“Notably, his past convictions for business and tax fraud were not taken in the interests of Trump but himself.
“When he admitted on stand that he lied during his prior plea agreement, that was not to assist Trump, who he had already denounced. It was to advance his own interests.
“There is every indication that Cohen is still lying,” Turley wrote.
Dem rep tied to judge's daughter
Thanks to social media, the public now knows a Democrat lawmaker, Rep. Dan Goldman, openly bragged to MSNBC he helped prepare Cohen for his testimony.
“I have deposed Michael Cohen. I have met with him a number of times to prepare him,” Goldman, an attorney and former federal prosecutor, told the "Morning Joe" program.
Cohen, who represents New York's 10th District, has also used a Democrat consulting firm called Authentic Campaigns for his political campaigns. The firm's president is Loren Marchan, daughter of Manhattan trial judge Juan Merchan whose legal gag order has stopped Trump from criticizing his daughter.
Tuberville: Trial is ‘weaponized’
On the "Washington Watch" interview, Tuberville said he was was overcome by what he saw as an unabashed effort to get Trump.
“There were 20 assistant district attorneys in that courtroom. They’ve only prosecuted 3% of the crime in New York this year. All these prosecutors were in there watching this trial. It was their Super Bowl.
“You got a guy up there saying, ‘Yeah, I recorded a lot of these conversations,’ and they played one. When do you allow lawyers to record their client and then play it against them in court? It’s amazing how this whole thing’s working out. It’s all weaponized against Republicans,” Tuberville said.
