During a recent hearing of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, chairman Chip Roy of Texas wanted to expose the growing threat of Sharia Law in the United States.
He posed this question to Robert Spencer, the director of Jihad Watch, about the threat of radical Islam.
"Is it safe to say that the goal of those organizations and the Muslim Brotherhood is for the Western Hemisphere, for the Western Civilization, the United States and Texas as Ground Zero, to become Islamic?"
Spencer responded by pointing out that Sharia law is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution.
"Oh, there's no doubt about it. That's very clear from the explanatory memorandum of the Muslim Brotherhood saying that the goal is that Allah's religion is victorious over other religions, and they're working toward eliminating and destroying Western Civilization from within,” Spencer said.
Multiple Democrats were dismissive of the hearing, claiming it was a distraction from the greater dangers allegedly posed by the Trump administration and "white Christian nationalism."
Last December, Roy and another Texas U.S. House member, Brandon Gill, launched the Sharia-Free America Caucus in response to their state’s inundation of Muslim immigrants — immigrants who they say aim to establish self-governing enclaves under Islamic law. The caucus has since burgeoned to 38 members from 18 states, Roy's office noted Wednesday.
Supporters of the caucus say Sharia represents a threat to national identity, citing concerns over immigration, cultural assimilation and national security.
The caucus’ growth is encouraging, but it has an uphill climb to turn back the tide of Islam that appears to be rising in the U.S. The Islamists currently have the advantage, Spencer said.
“All the non-Muslim apologists for Sharia that we see are indications of how successful that effort has been,” Spencer said.
