A course entitled “Unsettling the White Gaze” will be offered to students at Trinity College beginning in the spring semester of 2027, Campus Reform, the watchdog news site, first reported.
Campus Reform found the course and its description online among the school’s courses on anthropology, which is the study of human behavior and human history.
Trinity College, located in Hartford, Connecticut, is a private liberal arts college founded by an Episcopal bishop in 1824. It is home to approximately 2,200 students.
According to the course description, Trinity students will sit for a weekly 2 ½-hour, in-person course to “turn our anthropological gaze upon whiteness itself, exposing its insidious modes of self-and-other construction, and destabilizing its ocular power to define others.”
The same description states that “White supremacy and racial capitalism structure our world, setting in motion the systems of domination…”
The course description echoes the tenets of Critical Race Theory. That is the Marxist-based theory, which began at Harvard Law School, that claims the white population is inherently racist toward minorities and wields power over them to maintain control.
The course is taught by an assistant professor Dr. Nadja Eisenberg-Guyot, whose Trinity biography describes her as a "white, disabled, trans anthropologist."
The professor, who came to Trinity College in 2024, goes by “they/them” pronouns according to a flattering story about her published in the student newspaper, the Trinity Tripod. The professor said she was drawn to studying and teaching anthropology after encouraging homeless drug addicts to enjoy their “autonomy” and “self-determination” to use drugs when she worked at a nonprofit that helps the homeless.
“Anthropology was a discipline where I could study and theorize alongside people who use drugs about police violence, incarceration and the war on drugs, and what forms of social support and collective life they desire,” she told the Tripod.
Adam Guilette, president of Accuracy in Media, told American Family News a class like “Unsettling the White Gaze” is more confirmation higher education is dumbing down students.
“By all objective measures we've now created a generation that is less educated than the generation before them,” he warned. “Yet, at the same time, the studies show that they think they're the most educated generation ever.”
The cost to attend Trinity College is approximately $89,300 annually.
In the Tripod interview from two years ago, the “they/them” professor said she was “awed and humbled” at students in her anthropology classes who are taking “intellectual risks” to speak up in her class.
Based on her own comments, however, that compliment likely means Dr. Eisenburg-Guyot was referring only to the Trinity students who agree with and recite her Marxist ideology.
“What does an anti-racist, feminist classroom look and feel like?” she said, describing her classroom environment. “How do we know we are living up to our values as teachers to create classrooms that embrace, challenge and transform?”
According to Gillette, most parents are clueless that such indoctrination is happening to their children at almost every university and college campus.
"Higher education in America has been captured by the Left and requires significant reform on both the state and federal level," he urged.
