School choice means that parents can choose which schools their kids attend, rather than their children being required to attend school in the district in which they live. Democrats largely oppose school choice.
Democratic Colorado Governor Jared Polis went on Fox News recently, where he explained his reasons for breaking with his party on this issue.

"First of all, I think most democratic governors will get there. Maybe I stepped out early, but it's because I saw how this can clearly benefit kids," states Polis.
He said this is "really about" the opportunity for people to donate money to an organization that gives scholarships for summer programs and more to children that are in the middle to lower income level.
"And then when you donate $1700, you get a tax credit back for that $1700," informs Polis.
He clarifies that this will not happen in this new year but in 2027. Furthermore, he says that this empowers donors to step up and help kids.
"Basically, people can donate to an organization doing worthy work, providing real opportunities for kids for tutoring, for school, and then they get that $1700 back, $3400 per couple," explains Polis.
He also comments on how there can be a great opportunities for teachers in doing this.
“Because guess who some of the very best people to help teach in after school programs are? Very best folks for running summer programs for kids that nonprofits run? It's often going to be high quality classroom teachers. They have the skills already," states Polis.
Polis says that everyone should know that there is not one right thing for every child.
"For some, it might be a different school. For some, it might be the same school but just having an after-school tutor. For others, it might mean having a summer program," lists Polis in explanation.
