The Jewish Virtual Library published a report in September titled “Arab funding of American Universities: Donors, Recipients, and Impact.” According to the report, almost one-fourth of the $62 billion of foreign funding for U.S. colleges since 1981 has come from Arab sources with Qatar contributing $6.6 billion.
Universities that are receiving this funding are also reported to have staff who are “apologists for radical Islam and vitriolic critics of Israel," the report states. These antisemitic staff members are also supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Speaking on American Family Radio, former U.S. Under Secretary of Education Gary Bauer, who served under the Reagan administration, was asked if Muslim favoritism had been purchased and fostered on university campuses thanks to countries like Qatar.
"Qatar has played a really negative role in all sorts of ways. I know the Trump administration thinks they can wean them away from some of those policies, but universities have accepted money from that country, as well as accepting money from communist China," states Bauer.
He mentioned “Chinese cultural centers,” which are called “Confucius centers” on some campuses.
"You've got Middle Eastern study programs on all the major universities, and there are university students majoring in Middle Eastern Studies. And those studies have been funded and often have professors picked by radical Islamic countries that have put up the money," informs Bauer.
Bauer said that there are "a lot of privileged people in America" such as in these university communities that have made decisions that might be good for them, but what about the rest of the U.S.?
"They get more money, they get more professors, but it's bad for our country. And it's one of the reasons that, over the next 10 to 20 years, Donald Trump is not going to be able to solve all of this. We're going to need a series of serious presidents that will bring America back to our Judeo-Christian roots, or the country is going to fail," says Bauer.
