A conservative Jewish activist says two Syracuse University students deserve to be punished after throwing pork into a Jewish fraternity during a Jewish holiday.

Law enforcement authorities have identified the students as Samuel Patten and Kyle Anderson. Patten allegedly entered the Zeta Beta Tau house during a Rosh Hashanah dinner and hurled a plastic bag of pork. Anderson, who was waiting, then drove away.

Zachary Marschall, who is Jewish, is editor in chief of Campus Reform. He is also a native of Syracuse and attended Syracuse University to obtain a master’s degree.

“This type of incident that took place, throwing pork into a Jewish fraternity especially during the Jewish new year, should dispel the Left's lie that antizionism is not antisemitism," says Marschall.

That’s because the two students, who are American, targeted Jews who were gathered for a Jewish holiday, not for a pro-Israel demonstration.

“There were targets of a hate crime because they were Jewish,” Marshall says.

William Fitzpatrick, the district attorney for Onondaga County, said the incident would be treated as a hate crime and will not dismissed as a prank.

“This incident is not a foolish college prank and will not be treated as such,” Fitzpatrick said. ”It will be treated for what it is, a crime directed against a group of Jewish students enjoying a celebratory dinner and seemingly secure in their residence."
