Band teacher Steve Aylward and social studies teacher Rachel O'Connor were suspended for mocking Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on their social media sites. According to Breitbart News, there are petitions both for and against these teachers continuing to hold state-funded positions. The concern is regarding their influence over young minds.
David J. Freeman, a political commentator and MAGA supporter, outed the two teachers for their unsavory comments on his X account. Aylward commented that Charlie Kirk was “calling for this,” regarding Kirk’s assassination because of his beliefs, and O’Conner, while not condoning violence, was caught on video trashing Charlie Kirk to her students. Miamisburg Schools was tagged in both posts to draw their attention.
A meeting is taking place on Thursday by the Miamisburg school board to determine if the teachers will remain to be employed by the school.
AFN talked with Linda Harvey, who is president of Mission: America.
"We need to have teachers who will not use their personal social media platforms to state radical views that will really influence kids in the wrong way. What these two teachers have done completely disrespect another human being's life," states Harvey.
She says that what this incident and others like it have done is encouraged timid conservatives and Christians to publicly speak their minds.
“Now you have people who are conservatives and Christians, who are not afraid nearly as much as they used to be, to come out to these meetings. The wonderful thing that's starting to happen – both because of Trump's election and some of these horrible incidents, as horrible as they are – is that it is really revealing the truth to all of us," says Harvey.
