Education Department finds Virginia school districts in violation of Title IX

The US Department of Education found that five school districts in Virginia violated civil rights laws for letting boys use girls' spaces.

The Education Department began investigating the public-school districts in February after America First Legal said the districts' policies were illegally discriminatory against women. They were enforcing policies which are in violation to Title IX by catering to gender identity ideology.

The districts in question are located in Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Alexandria City, Arlington, and Prince William County.

Beth Parlato is the senior legal advisor with Independent Women's Forum.

"The Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights opened up an investigation because there were several complaints filed with males invading female spaces," Parlato says.

She explained it wasn't just boys playing in girls' sports.

"We're talking about locker rooms, shower rooms, and restrooms. They [Education Department] were inundated with complaints, and so they did complete their investigation," states Parlato.

The Department of Education gave the districts resolutions agreement and ten days to change their school policy, or federal funding will be withheld.

Prince William County Public Schools told the Daily Caller that, after reviewing the document, they would continue to work with the Department of Education to ensure Title XI is upheld for the well-being of the students. Two other districts responded similarly.

"At Independent Women's Forum, we are in agreement with the administration. Title IX has been around for 53 years to protect sex-based protections and rights for women in education and athletics. And these schools need to comply,” Parlato says.

Not just in Virginia, Parlato said, but all across the country. She said they must comply by protecting the safety and well-being of women and girls, or the Trump administration will hold them accountable.
