A California university is launching a mandatory program that a representative that opposes the climate change movement calls bogus.

First-year University of California-San Diego students must complete a one-quarter course in climate change in order to graduate, according to Breitbart News.

The course was implemented this fall with the stated purpose that “undergraduates across all majors on campus are equipped to understand and address climate change,” the university said.

For credit, more than 7,000 first-year students must complete a one-quarter course. They can choose from more than 40 courses judged acceptable by the UC San Diego Academic Senate to meet the needs of climate education.

Peter Murphy of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow says this isn't about academics but about politics.

"What's being required in San Diego are not about climate science, properly understood, but in fact it's a climate agenda that is designed not to be truthful to students, but in fact to steer them in a very political and junk science type of direction.”

Among the approved courses are titles like, “Gender and Climate Justice,” “Indigenous Approaches to Climate Change” and “California Politics.” One is simply titled “Water.”

Murphy argues the climate change agenda is a modern-day version of a flat-Earth society.

Breitbart reports Muir College Provost Wayne Yang states UC San Diego administrators drew inspiration from the school's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion requirement.

“I think that's probably the biggest lie of this whole effort, that somehow if we just do things differently that the Earth is going to start cooling someday. If it's cooling someday, it's going to do that on its own. It's not going to do it with our help,” Murphy said.
