As primary phase closes, DeSantis remains on parents' side

Florida's governor has teamed up with moms in endorsing pro-parental rights school board candidates and targeting incumbents who want to keep parents out of their own children's education.

Ron DeSantis (R) has endorsed more than 20 school board candidates over 14 counties this cycle, and embracing Moms for Liberty's effort to flip school boards across the U.S., he has been working to remove 14 liberal members from their seats, which are supposed to be nonpartisan.

Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, says leading up to today, the final day of Florida's primary phase, "quite a number of our chapters have endorsed pro-parental rights candidates."

Her team has "a really good win rate" over the last two election cycles in Florida, where she says continued work and progress will get parents in the driver's seat for their children's education.

"It's very important that parents are making the decisions that impact their children and not teachers' union leaders or their candidates that they have been putting in office for the last several decades," Descovich tells AFN.

"I think moms are the key political force for this 2024 cycle," Gov. DeSantis told the Moms for Liberty national conference in Philadelphia last year.

He wants to counter the "woke" agenda that is so prominent in the nation's public schools.
