Christopher Rufo, the writer and investigative reporter at City Journal, writes in a July 20 story that he obtained a “trove” of documents from the Los Angeles Unified School District. In particular, he says, the school district’s Human Relations, Diversity, and Equity Dept. has been exposed for implementing academic queer theory to children as young as kindergarten going back to the 2020 school year.
With more than a half-million students, LAUSD is the second-largest in the U.S. that is subjecting students to what it calls “trans-affirming” classroom materials. Those lessons encourage children to choose their gender and discourages them from using phrases such as “boys and girls.”
Thanks to corporate whistleblowers, Rufo is best known for exposing prominent Fortune 500 companies that forced tenets of Critical Race Theory on their "racist" white employees. The issue of race shows up at LAUSD, too, such as blending the Black Lives Matter movement with minorities who are "trans" students (pictured at right).
Before the lessons reached the classrooms, the teaching seminars urged teachers to embrace intersectionality, a tenet of the Marxist-based Critical Race Theory, and apply it to their own classrooms. That is because phrases such as “boys and girls” represent the oppressive "gender binary," according to the academics who addressed teachers.
Reacting to Rufo’s revelations, Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute calls the forced indoctrination "spiritual genocide” because tens of thousands of children and teachers are being forced to listen and concur with its radical claims about language, basic biology, and human sexuality.
“Parents need to wake up, and start to protect their children,” he says, “by making alternative choices in the children's education and potentially what state they choose to live in."
Dacus made a similar plea in a recent AFN story, when he warned that a California bill would permit the state to take temporary custody of children who want to undergo “gender-affirming” surgery over a parent’s objections. That legislation is Senate Bill 107.
California, in fact, has finally witnessed a mass exodus of fed-up Californians that cost the nation’s most-populated state a congressional seat, for the first time ever, after the 2020 census. Democrats remain in power across most the state, however, and Gov. Gavin Newsom breezed through a recall election.
In his story, Rufo points out the L.A. students who are forced to sit through biology-denying indoctrination are minority students, many of them poor. It is “sickening,” he writes, that highly educated and well-paid bureaucrats are ignoring basic educational needs but are determined to force gender-based ideology on children.
“It will only keep them trapped in a morass of confusion, fatalism, and resentment—while the bureaucrats keep collecting their paychecks,” Rufo predicts.
