Open AI announced it has solved the Navier–Stokes existence problem, which has eluded the best minds in math and physics for more than 90 years. These equations are used for aircraft design, weather forecasting and the study of blood flow. Breakthroughs like this are now considered routine.
In regard to mathematics, Open AI has establishes a stance of sharing its progress with the mathematical community to help deepen human understanding and to find new discoveries.
Reuters also reports the physics research center CERN has given Mistral AI access to their scientific datasets, which is considered one of the world’s largest, in an effort to form a foundation model for scientific discovery.
Robert Maginnis, author of “AI for Mankind’s Future,” says there’s a new generation of AI agents that one will run into on the phone if one tries to book a hotel room or return a pair of shoes bought online.
“We’ve gone past generative AI, which of course are the chatbots. Now, we’re into AI agents, which are doing the work for you or alongside you,” Maginnis says.
Meanwhile, according to Associated Press, Elon Musk says he is going to gift every child in America with a share of SpaceX stock, and Anthropic has pledged a bunch of money to what it calls a Public Benefit Fund.
“The fact that Anthropic and Musk and others are promising to share the wealth with everyone, all the kids in this country, that means that they have surplus profits,” Maginnis states.
Humans, he says, are on the doorstep of the next generation of AI.
“We can’t be too far from AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), in which a host of these agents working together are going to exercise more control than perhaps we want,” Maginnis states.
How soon will this take place? Maginnis says it will be the equivalent of going to bed one night in the old world and waking up the next morning in the new.
“I think it will happen just that fast. All the prognosticators keep changing the timeline. It’s getting closer and closer,” Maginnis says.
