Linda Harvey, president and founder of Mission: America, wrote an article titled “Alert Your Teens to Watch for Coercion and Grooming.” She referenced news reports and sex education classes where students are allegedly required to participate in explicit, same-sex role-playing or skits.
For example, a French teacher at Denver Public Schools reportedly made female students kiss each other in class. The teacher, who is gay, was later fired. According to The Denver Post, a student told investigators that the teacher “always picked girls to act in the skits.”
However, while the vote to fire the teacher was unanimous from the board, she was re-hired at an elementary school.
Harvey wrote that these same-sex skits have been a practice in sex education courses for years. Even lessons regarding teen pregnancy prevention were too explicit, which is why the Department of Health and Human Services is cutting $65 million in funding.
These role-playing curriculum have normalized cheating along with advocating for sexual relations and homosexuality.
Harvey said that forcing or encouraging children into these scenarios compromises their values and faith, potentially turning them away from Christianity.
“When they are put in these situations, something happens in a child's spirit and mind,” warned Harvey. “It just compromises everything in a child's heart.”
She urged parents to give their children explicit permission to say "no" to any adult who places them in uncomfortable or compromising situations.
“All you have to say is please don't let any adult try to put you in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable, where you're revealing something that's personal and intimate, or that you're playing a role that violates your values,” said Harvey. “You have the right to protect yourself and your integrity, to protect your innocence. You have the right to say no.”
She also wants parents to make sure their child understands where Scripture stands on these matters: the prohibition of sex before marriage and homosexuality.
