The previous state superintendent, Ryan Walters, fought for the mandate before he left the position early to become CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance. He is disappointed that the new superintendent, Lindel Fields (R), is ending it.
"You see this so often, don't you? The teachers unions throw a fit, and Republicans, without any spine and weak-kneed, reverse and won't fight back," Walters laments. "We were the first state to put the Bible in the classroom, and now they're wanting to remove the Bibles from the classroom."
He says churches, parents, and communities "gotta fight back" to keep Oklahoma on the right path.
During Walters' time as the state's secretary of education and superintendent over the last four years, Oklahoma brought in universal school choice and became the first to ban diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in K-12 and higher education.
"I'm very proud of our record there," he tells AFN. "You know who fought us every step of the way were the teachers unions. We led the country in education reform, but we also led the country in attacks from the national teachers union, which keeps other states from doing this good work."
He joined the Teacher Freedom Alliance to fight the unions head-on.
"We get teachers to leave the teachers union, and then we have them join our organization, which teaches them how to be the best teachers possible through professional development," Walters relays.
The Alliance also helps conservative teachers fight lawsuits against them and teaches them how to fight back against the unions and the radical leftists "so that we can make our classrooms great again."
To do that, Walters says the fight has to be nationwide, and conservatives "absolutely have to play offense."
The teachers unions have effectively wrecked schools by injecting DEI and atheism into kids and making students into social justice warriors, but Walters promises to defeat them and get schools back to a place where the Bible is in the curriculum, where the focus is on academics, and where the parents are making the decisions.
He invites others to join the Teacher Freedom Alliance in this effort to "destroy" the national teachers unions.
